How to Play Mini Mahj

Mini Mahj is the Wordle of Mahjong — a free daily American Mahjong puzzle where every player gets the same tiles, same wall, and same opponents. Here's how it works.

What is Mini Mahj?

Mini Mahj is a daily American Mahjong puzzle game. Think of it like Wordle, but for Mahjong lovers. Every day at midnight ET, a new puzzle drops. Every player around the world gets the exact same tiles and the exact same wall — so skill is what separates the leaderboard.

You play a simplified version of American Mahjong against AI opponents, drawing and discarding tiles to build a winning hand. It takes about 5 minutes to play, making it the perfect daily brain teaser.

Getting Started

  1. Download Expo Go — Mini Mahj runs inside Expo Go, a free app available on the App Store and Google Play.
  2. Open Mini Mahj — Visit dailyminimahj.com on your phone and scan the QR code, or tap "Open in Expo Go."
  3. Play the daily puzzle — Each day brings a new puzzle. Draw tiles from the wall, discard strategically, and try to complete a winning hand before your opponents.
  4. Check the leaderboard — After finishing, see how you rank against other players. The fewer turns and faster you finish, the higher your score.

How the Daily Puzzle Works

Every Mini Mahj puzzle uses the same random seed, meaning every player gets an identical setup. The wall (the pool of tiles you draw from) is the same, and the AI opponents make the same decisions. Your choices are what determine the outcome.

New puzzles are released daily at midnight Eastern Time. You get one attempt per day — just like Wordle. Miss a day? Don't worry, a fresh puzzle is always waiting tomorrow.

Scoring & the Leaderboard

Mini Mahj rewards efficient play. Your score is based on whether you won the round, how quickly you finished, and how few turns it took. Win the round and you'll land on the daily leaderboard.

Top 10 finishers earn special recognition. Share your results with friends and challenge them to beat your rank — every shared result links back to the day's puzzle so they can try it themselves.

American Mahjong Basics

American Mahjong is a tile-based game traditionally played with four players. Players take turns drawing and discarding tiles, trying to form specific combinations (called "hands") to win the round. Mini Mahj simplifies the experience so anyone can pick it up, whether you're a seasoned Mahjong player or completely new to the game.

No prior Mahjong experience is needed — the game guides you through the basics as you play.
